Penimah is a place to bring study and inner life closer together, drawing on Jewish contemplative teachers. You do not need any background in Jewish study or meditation.
Three ways in
- Join a session. One hour online each month. See the schedule.
- Read the overview. Online sessions explains the format and the three teachers.
- Try a short reading. Meditation before prayer is a few minutes long. The Hitbodedut study sheet goes further.
The teachers
- The Piaseczner Rebbe (R. Kalonymus Kalman Shapira) taught that imagination is a sacred faculty through which the soul makes contact with higher realities.
- Bachya ibn Paquda, writing in eleventh-century Andalusia, distinguished the duties of the limbs from the duties of the heart, including trust and the solitude of the soul.
- The Ramchal (R. Moshe Chaim Luzzatto) built Mesilat Yesharim around a structured ladder of character refinement.
